1930s Ivory Bias-Cut Silk Satin Trained Gown with Sequin Appliqué

A late-1930s bias-cut gown in ivory silk satin, from spaghetti straps to a pooled train.

The cut does the work. Diamond gores at the hips let the skirt fall and flare. The bodice crosses into a soft V. At the hem, a channel-stitched satin band backed in silk organza gives the skirt its weight and sweep. Row after row of fine stitching, unseen until the hem moves.

Across the bodice, a later floral appliqué in bronze, gold and iridescent sequins, worked on tulle and hand-tacked in place. The piece is 1930s line with a second life layered on top, and it carries the spirit of both.

For the bride who wants Old Hollywood without the costume. For black tie, it needs nothing else.
