Bergdorf Goodman on the Plaza, 1976. The original order label is still inside, hand-dated in May of that year.
Sheer ivory tulle, layered in corded lace. Every flower is set with pearls and a small ribbon-work bloom, placed by hand. The collar stands. The sleeves stay short and exact. At the hem, the lace gathers into a deep scalloped border that follows the train out behind you.
It comes with its own veil. The same lace, pearls, and flowers are shaped into a Juliet cap that sits close to the head and scallops at the brow, with tulle falling from the crown.
The 1920s did it first. 1976 did it again. It still works.
For a city hall ceremony with a cathedral attitude, or a garden wedding that wants structure. Wear it with bare hands. The collar and the lace are doing enough.
